My dear Son
As Captain
Bartlett says he is going to
morrow morning [y]our and Father
and I thought we would send
you a small package he cant
take a great deal or else we
would send more I thought
perhaps you would like
some lemonade but be
careful and dont drink too
much at one time as you
must be careful in such
a hot place I was glad
to see your miniature
it was next too seeing
you I guess there wont be
anything doing to speak of
in the shoe line Ellen got
a letter from you Friday and
put me in the office for you
also 3 papers done up together one

one from Aunt Nelson
I think you are quite
fortunate in having no
fighting to do I like
Capt B very much he is a
pleasant man spoke highly of
you and the company
have you seen Tom Marshalls
baby miniature it was only
7 days old when it was taken
thy call it Anna Pauline
daughter of the Regiment
as it is the first baby
born since the went , we
are all as well as usual
Friday there was a fire
on Boardman street 2 houses
and 2 barns burned down
one was Thomas Brookings
3 story house he was out
of town , the other Irish, loss
8 thousand dollars done by
boys playing with fire crack
the houses were so dry some
caught on olive St and

way down on State St the
wells were all dry cinders
were flying in all direction
way down in the market
as big as your hand
they expected the whole
street would go
take good care of yourself
from your Mother
Ellen will send by post as

you will get it just as
quick and he couldnt
bring any high bundle
I wish you could be
at home the 4th but we
must make the best of it
