Dear wife i now wish you a happy new
year and also mother and Father and the
Children to aunt nelson and Lottie and
all hands it is a fine day for new years
and the harber Presents a Beautifull appear
ance the Stars and Stripes are flying from
all the vesels and there is a Large number
here i think that we Shall Land Some
where in James River to form a Junction
gen Be[??] So as to Cut of the Left flank
of the Rebels army and the army on
the Potomac will Start at the Same
time and then we have got the Rebels
in our Power i See By the Papers that
the trent afair is Setled By giving up
mason and Slidell it is to Bad But
i Suppose that it is for the Best we will
flog England one of thes days i Bought
me a Pair of Legings yesterday to

wear on my Legs they keep my Legs warm
thay are as good as Boots i hope that you
have got that Letter with the Rock in it
and i Bought a Bottle of Jamica ginger it
is a good thing for this Climate they Say
it will Prevent fever and i got Some
[Staches?] one or to of the Boys in the
Company have got the meales i hope it
wont [spread?] as i was Pasing up a Streat
yesterday i met a man that i had not
Seen for 9 years he did not know me
But i knew him and when i told him
who i was i thought he would Shake
my hand of[f] you know when i was
Ship wrecked in that new Ship when
i get in New York i See him there and
he was a going to newberyport and i
had no monney and he gave Some to get home
with his name is grant he used to work
in the Shipyard i Shall always Rememb
er him i tell you well i hope this

Letter will find you all well i think
that we will Be Paid of the Rest of
our Pay this week i hope So Before we
go i would not Send anny Stockings
for fear i Should not get them they
Pay of[f] Partly in Bank notes So we
Can Send i a Letter it is Just as good
So Frank is to work in Lut[??] m[?]lls
is he how Long will it Last how is
Shoemakeing now give my Resptets
Sarah [???] and her Sister and wish
them a happy New year for me
i Shall Send nelley and Lissy a Little
monney to By them Some Candy there
is nothing else to Send you Can give

Pedlars have Enough around the Camp now
they have got Paid of[f] with stuf to
Sell i had one good dinner yesteday
of Beef Steak they have good Beef out
here But i will close write as
