Dear wife i was glad to get a Letter from
you i got two the 31 first of Jan and it done
me good i have wrote three Letters to you
Since i have Ben here and the maill
goes again to day and the fleet will
go up the Sound to day or tomorrow
we got Some new York Papers the first
i have Seen for a month the yankees
have give the Rebels in kentucky fits old
Zolicofer is Shot and i hope that we
Shall have a good victory i am with
my Regiment now on Bourd of the
highlander and i am glad to Be with
the Boys one more yesterday a Small
Schooner came in Sight Coming down the
Sound from Secesh a gun Boat Put out
for her and hove her to She Proved
to Be a vesele from Roanoke island
with eight Soldiers on Bourd who
had Stolen her and deserted from the

Rebels they ware taken to gen Burnsides
and i Seppose they gave him Some
good information they are all northern
Born men and are glad to Be under
the Rolattion of the Stars and Stripes
once more the wether here is Rather
Bl[??] now it is a Bad Place to
Come this time of year But we dont
have anny Snow i got two Stamps
in one of your Letters and a Letter
from nelley and i will write a
Line to her in this [you?] have

By the way Lt Creassey got a Letter
from his wife and Shee was very
much Pleased with you and Mrs
wentworth good for you give my Love
to all and tell them that i Shall
do my duty as a Soldier and i hope
to Return Before many months to my

than ever with a Plenty of every

writing this Letter in my Bunk with
a Lantern to See By i will Send hattie
a Presant if i ever get where i can
get one do you ever hear from yer
Sister Abby now give my Love to
her if you write to her and the
Boys i have not wrote a Letter
to Capt Dade Since i have Ben
gone i ought to have done it But
i have not had time to write
to anny Body But you if you
See him give him my Respects
what the matter with Bill
hopkinson wife we hear Bad
Storys out here well i dont
know of anny thing now to
write about from your
