monday June 30th [1862]
Dear Wife
yours of the 23 thd Came to hand on
Saturday i also got one from Mr
drake and i was glad to get them
i tell you this Portion of the army
will in all Probabilaty will make
a move this week for goldborow
and Raleigh gen Burnside has got
about thirty thousand men Preparation
are now making for the movement
i dont know wether i Shall go
or not i have not Been well for
Some days and if i dont fell
any Better i Shall Be excused
the Regt will Be mustured in
fore Pay to day But i dont think
that we Shall get Paid of[f] till after
the advance i think that you
got well quick But Be Carefull

why dont you Like Parsons Letters
i do yes Bill Morrison has gone
home But i dont Believe that
he will Be at home a month
Before he will get in to the
County house i know quint
Johnson you Can Send By him
if you want i Should Like a
Box of Rochell Powders [2] for
the Stomach So hatty is going
to Boston i dont Like the idea
of that for how will She know
what you want to write But
you Can mange it i Recieved
a Herald yesterday from you
yes i think that there will
Be a hard fight at Richmond
and i wich they would have
it and Settle it you have
heard tell of (Butter milk ) [3]
Lieutenants well we have got
a Share of them handy to us
D P M was found in a

Rather Curious Place the other
morning well its all Right
But the Privates will have
a Chance to Speak one of
these days i dont think
that we Shall have a hard
fight up to goldsbouro But
may for all that if they make
this war an emancipation
war it never will Be over
well i Cant write a Long
Letter to day the Troops will
Be gone about a week But our
Regt will have to Leave [hay?]
to do gard duty give my Love
to all and i thank Mrs drake
for her Letter and i will
write to her one of these
days So good By for the
