Sept 24th
Dear Wife i now Sit down to Let
you know that i got a Letter from
you yesterday it was mailed Sept the
15 th you Speak about three days
Rations i dont know anything about
it we are Still in Newbern and
Shall Be for Some time yet aint
we had Some Glorious News
dident McClennan whip the
Rebels and Put them to flight
and our own Burnside was
there to god Bles him But we
have Lost a noble man Gen Reno
well do i Remember him from
on the Battle fields of
Roanoke and Newbern he was
a Brave man and i Should
Like to kill a hundred
for him the Bells toled

where fired all day in honner
of the Gallant dead gen Mansfield
is also among the fallen oh i feel
afraid Sometimes that Burney will
Be kiled it would Cast a Gloom
on the department that never would
Be erased But with the Blood
of Rebels But we Cant tell
who will Be kiled But i hope
now we have got the Rebels Started
they wont Stop till they kill
them all i See that the 35th
Regt was in a fight was any
