Camp Pendleton Newbern N C Dec 2nd [1862]
dear wife i will Pen you a
few Lines to Let you know how i am getting
along we are now in camp Just outside the
City and we have got the Best Laid out
Camp about here it it named honer
of Capt Pendleton of Gen Fosters Staff
who was kiled By Being thrown from
his horse he Belonged in New york thare
has Been Some Changes made Since my Last
we have Lost our Col he has Resigned and
got his discharge we all feel Bad to See
him we Shant get a Better Col the Regt
is now in Command of the Magor and
he is a hard one But he is a Smart officer
and he will make a good Regt if he kills
every man well we have got the name
of Regulers for our Regt gen Foster Says
it is the Best driled volunter Regt he
ever Saw and he is an old Soldier well
By the way yesterday was a great day with
our Company the old eight has got out
here and yesterday the N P Boys all
[???] to our Camp and Such a time
i thought i was at home they Came Just at
dinnertime and we had Soup for dinner
and we all Sat down together Mr
Fogg nerly Shook my hand of[f] well after
they had Seen all of thier old Friends they

started for thier own Camp and myself
and John Merrill went with them to See
Capt Gardner and Eban Cutter and me
did See them and had a good time gardner
is a fine Looking officer i did not Se Col
Coffin we expect Some more [??] to
day So i Believe i will not writ any
more to day we had no mail for two
days and no Box yet it is to Bad
monday morning [3rd ?]
it is cold and Raining no mail yet [it must?]
Be Bad wether outside i Saw Some of the
Cushing Gaurd yesterday the eight will go with the
Second Brigade we are having Brigade drills
every day ours is the first Brigade too hold
the Position of Honner in the Brigade the 45th
and 43thid and 17th are in it we have got
twenty thousand troops here now gen [?] is
about Played out here with the [?] we
all Believe that he is a Rebel it is [Reported?]
this Col Kurts told him So to his head i tell
you this Col Kurts wont Stand no [falling?]

Belonged to the 17th and of N P Not
