Sunday Moring March 6th [the correct year is 1862]
dear wife this is a Beautifull moring
i have Just done Breakfast and i thought
i would Pen a Line of to the Col Started
for home yesterday to Be gone fifteen days
i Should Like to go to Church to day But i dont
think [??] Reg will ther is not much news in the
Papers this time i hope New orleans is taken By
this time it Seems to me that they work awfull
Slow in the army all But gen Burnsides he is
the Boy to wake them up we are having Breast
works thrown up outside the City to keep the
Rebels of[f] we have got Artillery Planted on evry
Road to gaurd against Supprice from the Enemy
they have got a Large force at goldsborrow
But i geuse the gen will drive them out
i forgot to tell you that the Cape of my
Coat was Shot through twice in the fight
that So i am writing Seargent now
