Ellen E My dear wife
yours of the 20th came to hand yesterday and
I was glad to here thanksgiving has come
and gone we had a very good time
i have got all the Papers that you sent
a good Lot of them i hope the childrens
eyes will get well for you had hard times
with so much Sickness what Regiment
does Frank belong to where is it I
did not know that he was a [voter?]
and is he is to get his discharge well
he better go into the vetteran Reserve boys
that is the best Place for him we had
a Letter from J D Parsons yesterday and
he was at Readvile and Eldridgs to
he says that he will start to Join
the Regt is a few days and
Eldridge to well I Should think it
was about time yes I hope that

my Letter done Sarah some good I hope
that She will Stay at home and take
care of mother instead of running of[f]
after every thing gen Cushing is all right
now and I wish that S[pafferd?] might
be brought [??] we dont get anything
from gen Sherman ye t he will be
in Charleston or Savannah before
they now it what a man he
is he dont fear anything I hope
he will come out all right I suppose
that you know that Plymouth and
Little washington is in our hands once
more the Rebels have fallen back
to kingston and Lut w B Cushing
has destroyed the Rebel Ram
that was a great thing he is Brave
and he will be Promoted to a
Captain I think that I wrote about
the fire in Newbern it was
a Large fire and a great deal
of government Proppety was Burnt

we are having fine wether now clear
and Cool nights and it is now quite
healthy now well the Paymaster is
all ready to Pay me of and we have
to wait for the old Rols at home
that the Captn ought to have sent
Right out but they dont care as
Long as they are at home the
25th will be Paid of tomorrow but
we will have to wait wait, wait ,
but we will have to put up with
it I see by the papers that government
will bring down the Price of gold
and make things cheapper and I
am glad of it. the gold gamblers have
had there way about Long enough
I will give you a List of Prices out
here of a few things northern
Potatoes four dollers a Bushel
Sweet = = one doller and a half
Butter 75 cents Per Pound cheese
50 cents Per Pound eggs 45 cent a
dossen that is the infernal

way that the People are done
out of there monny and I
hope to god that it will be
Put a Stop to well I will
close give my Love to all
the family and Remember me
to my Friend and write
often kiss the children for
me and Send me a
Little Cayenne Peppers in
a Letter much Love
from your huband
