Biography:
George D. Harris (b. 1844 d. 1865) served Co. C, 115th Ohio Infantry 1862-1865, rank Private. He was captured at Lavergne, Tennessee and exchanged. He died on April 27, 1865 in the explosion of the steamer Sultana on the Mississippi river near Memphis, TN. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Harris of Bath Township, Summit Co., Ohio. Listed in the 1860 census, age 16, as living on the family farm with his parents and four older brothers (Jacob, Charles, John, Lewis) and one younger sister Sarah. His father Thomas was born in Ohio and his mother Elizabeth in Virginia.
