Biography: 

John B. Holloway was from Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania and mustered into service on August 2, 1862 as a musician (drummer) in Co. D, 148th Pennsylvania Infantry (commanded by Col. James A. Beaver). He was discharged on June 1, 1865. At the time of the 1860 Census, John Holloway was 35 years old and listed as a farmer owning $2,200 in real estate and $755 in personal estate. He and his wife, Mary Ann (n. ca. 1831), had two children, Charles (age 11), Emma (age 4). The household also included his widowed mother Elizabeth Holloway (age 63). The 1870 Census records that the Holloways had one more child, Annie (born ca. 1863). By that time son Charles Holloway had become a school teacher.
