Biography: 

John W. Bookman (b. ca. 1844) was from Mountville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and mustered into Co. K, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry, as a private on October 7, 1861. Bookman apparently served in Co. K, with relatives Samuel (d. in July 1862) and William Bookman. John and William Bookman were captured on September 30, 1864 and discharged on June 5, 1865.
