Biography:
William Hagerson (b. July 5, 1820) was from Armstrong Country, Pennsylvania, and served as a sergeant (later first sergeant) in Co. D, 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry. He enlisted at age 40 with his son, Asa, who was hospitalized due to illness but survived the war. Before the war, he was a shoemaker. He married Mary Magdalen King (1822-1913) in 1844, and they lived near Miller’s Eddy, Pennsylvania. They had eight children. Hagerson may have been wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness and killed by bushwhackers a few days later in May 1864.
