Gettysburg April 16 1862
My Dear Jackey
I received your letter
by Liuten Norris and wrote a little
answer last night and put it in a
box with some mince pies cakes eggs
and butter to send to you for eister
I could not hire any one going
down so I thought I would send them
with Mr Myers but he said he could
not take it unless you would be
at the railroad to take it he would
have to throw it of[f] and that would not
do So the boys had to tote it back
if thair is any one here or coming up
let me know so that I can send
it I have not herd of any one being
here I received a letter from your

Pappy on Monday he wrote about the
same that he did to you I answred
it last night I had one from Mary
Smith she stated your Aunt June
was married in March- the Myers
family are pretty well represented in
the army John Sam and Kitty
each have a son in Johns Son was
in the battle at Donelson Kittys
son is in Kentucky Sam is living
in Iowa they had not herd from
him for eigh years did you know
Mes Culp was taken prisner at Whenchister [1]
but is releasit on parole he wrote to Ann
God only knew what he suffered
while he was a prisner dont you all
pitty him Ann trys to excite sympathy
Sallie is lying with the Mumps since

Sunday I thought thair was something
dreadful ailed her besid the Mumps she
was so very sick and her throat was
nerely closed but the Doctor sais not
only her tonsils swollen Annie has got
quite well apearantly but is still short
of breath but I sepose it will ware
away she is to go to Nellys tomorrow
if it is clear she is as greate a talker
as ever when sick she scarcely spoke
a word in a day Mrs Beitler took tea
with us on Saturday Matters are not
improveing any with them in any
respect but rather growing worse but
still she thinks she is the very [wosnad? ]
you should here Sanders on the subject
but she is down worsed on Pete
Evry one that have friends in the
Army of the Potomac are dredfully

Excited and ancious about them it is
expected there will be a dredful battle
at yorktown do you think your Pappy
will get in it they apear to be getting very
close I dare not think of it
I must close dont neglect to write soon
my love to Edy [2] and all your boys
