Camp Beuhler Lutherville May 9th
1862
Dear Mother
I take this
opportunity to inform you that we
are well at present and hope that
you are enjoying the same blessing
There is nothing new here in Camp
now Thursday the 15th of this [month?] our Reg
is to go to Towsen town for to have a
dress parade and drill and the Band
is going to hold a consert thare in
the evenning, We Ware payed off to
day it took $3,700.66 cts to pay uss off
we got our back pay, Jack sends
you 25.00 and i will send 20 for you
to keep for me but if you need it
use it For mother i will tell you that
i intend to get married the next time
i come but i supose that it will
suprise you and you will think
i had better wait till i am out
of service i have thought the mater
over and i think i might as well
get married now as any other time

but i thought i had better tell you
and have your opinion about it
for i think it is better to have your
say to it Sue and i have been
Engaged for over a year now and
if we are going together at all we might
as well now as ever but i dont expect
to come home till we are discharged
but there is no telling Mother Keep
this to your self if you please for
i dont want it to get out yet
We have had no letter from
father for some time but
Jack is expecting every morning
John McCarty is going up to morrow
we will send our clothes with him
in my one red shirt put a pock
Buten on the pocket for every
thing falls out for me Send my
Razor Strop along with my Clothes
but i dont want the razor i think the
strop is in the till of my trunk
We have good times now we only
drill in the morning and after
that we go whare we please and
enjoy ourselves Our officers thinks

that We leave hire next week
Prey we will go to Baltimore or Mount
Washington or Yorktown but thare
is no telling We have some notion
of Sending our dog F up with
McCarty he is very fond of Children
and if we leave here he will git kicked
about to much if we do tie him in
the stable and dont have the Boys
take him away much he will carey
a basket or any thing that you give
him McCarty will Come Back on
Monday the Captain will be in town
then we are Comencing to like
him better than ever he has
changed a grate deal in the
last 2 months and so has
Leutenant Norris and the men
behave better Thare is 3 men
sick here Robert King has got the
dumb agu [1] his wife is here boarding
at Mr Hilicks he goes home tomorrow
and one some kind of fever and
i dont know what is rong with
the other one Give my love
to Elmira and Creager
my [?] nefew is growing [quite?]
large by this time My love to all
the Family, I supose you hear all
of the late war news we git the
Morning and afternoon papers every
day and know all thats going on
so good by from

from home
PS Mother i send a reciet for t[apes?]
that i got from S,S, Mcreary
some time ago put it with the
other ones for i am afraid of losing it
