Encampment at Harissons Landing
Thursday morning August the 1st 1862
Dear Father and mother sisters and Brother
I have Rais my pen and [more?] to
inform you all that I am well at presant
time and do sincerly wish and hope it may
find you all well and Engoying the Same
Blessing I Suppos you all thought that I
had Been Killed in the Last battle but I was
ondly taken prissinr and we was Ex hanged
on the 5 and 6th of this month we come in
to our Lines yesterday Evening I have had good
health while I was prisinor and have good
health now I was taken prisinor on th [24th?]
of June and was taken to Richmond and
Put in prisin and was there until the 6th
When we Left Richmond and Landed at
McClellens Lines I supose we will be kept
hear now but I cant [tell?] wheather we will
form our Regt or not but I think [we?] [???]
our Regiment was [??????????????????]

and the boys are all well Excpt some

a fight a bout 2 hours and when I
[R???] Back Enough on our Right and
I [????] Surrounded us when we
was Retreating and then we had to surrender
as prisinors of war we all was used bad

give us a Nough to Eat But we Can get
[enough?] at present we are Encamped Long
Side of the James River a bout 30 miles from
Richmond where we are Lying under cover
of of our gun Boats McClellen has By all
I can [??????] by our Boys then we a
Bout one hundred and fifty thousand

prisnors the weather is midling warm hear

Nine Killed of our company and 10
wounded our capt was killed and
our first Liutenand was wounded in it and
there was one ball hit me on my [hand?]
but did not hurt me Enny it just [???]

before I I went in the battle field and
are not neglected since [????????] as
Long as I Live for I think and believe that
God will Protect me in the [?????]

I think the war will be [????????????]
Bout 8 month for the president has [cald?]
for six hundred thousand more men

Soon the Balloon was up a Bout A
Thousand feet this morning with in A
Bout 2 hundred yds of our camp Richmond
is A miserable Looking plase for they
have so many sick and wounded there

Letter and I want you to write as soon
as you get this Letter and send me some
Posstage stamps and tell all my
friends where I am and tell them to
