my Dear and Loving
wife tis with pleasure
I take my pen in han
To informe you Thies few
Lines to Let you know
that I am well at
preasent but i was very
sory to hear that you
wer not well when you
wrote this Letter but
I hope you will be better
Gin [1] you receive this
Letter and i am glad
you send me my tax
receit and i am going
to Let you know that i
got your Likeness to and
the money to and father
i am going to Let you
know that we mooved again

we had A very heavy
fight the other Day we
mooved into another fort
we are now guarason th
fort our men trided
to Take the danvill
Railroad but they could
not hold it they toke
up one rail Lenth
of the road and then
they had to fall back
all our men could do
wasto take 2 forts and
some breast works and
A few big guns but we
expect to trit again
prety Soon we toak 500
prisners and they are
hard Lookin ones they say
if we stick to them till
after the election they
will give up they say

other Day when we

butchering i did not
feel mutch Like having
my thum taken off
you want to know wheather
the war will soon be over

A fight we can see
them and we dont get

it fore 3 or 4 days and
gin that time you can
hear the news yourself
but when the election is
over then we can tell
better i want your folks
to tri all they can to
get old abe in fore
our armey election will

you could see the place
we are at it is a
hard Looking one we are
in pine woods i often wished
when i was home i could get
to cut pine but i got ennugh
of it the day we mooved we
had to work in the fort
after night till 9 o clocks

To cut down pine trees all
day and the milatery still
A Cutting down trees is
up as high as you Can
reatch and i understand
that samuel Weaver is
going to get married i
would Like to give him
one good adwice before
he sleeps with her the

affraid he will have
some trouble till he gets
his machiene in order
and i allso under stand
that my father is going
to farme but i think
he would better Let that alone
