Dear Wife
I This day Take the opper
tunity of wrighting you
A few Lins to informe you
that I am fat and harty
at present hopeing this few
Lins may find you in the
Same state of good health
and futher I received your
glad and ever welcome
Letter and futher i got
Bad news about one of
my mess maits one
of them was discharged
and the other one went
home on furlough the one
that went on furlough
was a corporal By the
name of Samuel P. Bern
he received A Letter from his

wife and it stated
that she was sick
and he got afurlough
and went Last week he
had A furlough fore 20 Days
he was an old vetern
served all most 4 years
and we received A Letter
at our head qaters from
his wife and it staetd
that he was dead
he hung himself in his
own Barn and the reason
why we dont extacly
know But By all the
apperance his wife must
have don some thing that
put him in sutch
great trouble he Belonged
the church all the time
he was with me in the
tent he ditent want

the way he all ways
would tell us of it
But my dear wife
dont Let me find
you in sutch a Case
if sutch was the Case
with hime and futher
i want you to send
me A few stamps
if you can get them
But my Dear wife i
must Close fore this
time i amd on guard
and have Beign fore
48 hours and we aint
relieved yet and i must
go do my guard [dutes?]
So no more at present
