Dear mo ther I take my
pen in hand to let you no that I am well at this time
and I hope those fiew lines will find you
well we think that we will leav this
plac and we do not now wher we will go next
but I think that we will to to mobeel nex
place we have not guns at this time
but we think we will get arms soon the
pickets report that the enemy was in five
miles of us. it is very muddy at this place
a b[a]d place to write eny atawl
mother let me no whather unkel h[u]ghes
go with the malitea or not
mother excuse my bad speling and writing
