Biography:
Robert Bates was born in 1838 in Halifax County, Virginia. He enlisted as a private in Co. B, 46th Virginia Infantry on March 10, 1862 and died of fever in a Richmond hospital on July 16, 1862. He was one of six brothers who served in the Confederate Army.
