Fort Delaware. Aug 23rd 1864
Dear Wife, I again seat myself to pen you a
few lines to let you know that I am still in the land
of the living. I received a letter from Joseph yesterday
evening for the first time they were all well. I hear
from David tolerable often he was well when heard
from last. he has been moved to New York
he stated in his last letter that Harrison Pence
died 6th Aug. Albert’s family is also well. I
received a Box of clothing & provision from him
yesterday. I got one pair pants shirt & drawers
that was all that I wanted. he also sent me
one ham sugar Coffee & fruit. I want you
all to do the best you can, I am doing very
well. write when you get this, Direct B F

if you have no U.S. stamp I can pay the
postage here. this leaves me well & I
hope will find you all the Same, no more
