24th Decr 1863

Dear Wife:
I write you a few lines to
let you know how I am my health is
about as it was when I left home
I hope this will find you all well.
I cant say certainly when I will be
at Home I espect to to make an ef
for to come in the course of a few
days there have been about 120 men
came in from Emory & Henry since
yesterday I think that will give me
a better chance to get away
Some one stole my Butter before I eat
any of it I have no news of
importance to write this time
the fare as to eating is rough
here but I have a very comfortable
Room & bed write as soon as you
can my love to all of the family
I am as ever Your affectionate Husband
