Fairfax one mile from center ville
Dear Father Aug 4th 1861
I take my pen to write you a
fiew lines to let you know that I arrived
at the camp about ten oclock last
knight & found them in tolerable health
John was a complaining of the head ache
a little we are camp about a mile from
Centers Ville, Centers vile is about 8 mile
from the Junction we are nine miles
from the Junction we are Camp on the road that leads
to elexandea we are camped on the
ground, where the Enemy was camped the night
before the batle, the fencing is all
torn a way, & we are a burning them
you may be glad if they never reach their
if they act their like they do here,
I came nine miles from the Junction and
nearly all then fencing is burnt & the
horses a grasing on the corn fields
it is dis trution on this country
you may be shore I was examined [1]
this morning and pronounced sound
I have not bin on the battlefield
yet, so I can not give you all a
discription of it, Our Redgement
left the battleground on yesterday

and is camped here, we are all
well at present and I hop these
fiew lines will find you all injoy-
ing the same blessing, write soon
and give me the news we are all
well at presen except your affectiona-

Pa pleas fetch us one bushel
of dried Aples & som peper & som
Soda Pa if you fetch us anything
els, tech us somthing to eat & one
pair of shoose I went to the branch
yesterday wer the Yankeys
had emtied a barrel of cartridge
-es & found about twenty five catri-
dges, there was about three bushell
but our boys had gathered them up
we are all well at presemt I hope
these fiew lines will find you enjoy-
