Biography: 

Daniel J. Hileman (b. ca. 1836) was the son of Daniel Hileman (b. ca. 1805), a Rockbridge County, Virginia farmer. Daniel J. Hileman enlisted as a private in Co. H, 27th Virginia Infantry on July 31, 1861 and soon was promoted to sergeant. He was captured at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House on May 12, 1864 and, like his brother Phillip, confined at Ft. Delaware before being released on June 15, 1865. In 1870 he was living on his father’s farm where he made his living as a farmer.
