Phillip C. Hileman
Phillip C. Hileman (b. ca. 1830) was the son of Daniel Hileman (b. ca. 1805), a Rockbridge County, Virginia farmer. Phillip enlisted as a private in Co. B, 27th Virginia Infantry on March 19, 1862 and was eventually promoted to sergeant. He was taken prisoner on June 9, 1862 and returned to his company on November 20. He was wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863 and returned to his company at the end of July. He was captured again at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House on May 12, 1864 and confined at Ft. Delaware until his release on June 15, 1865. After the war he resided on his father’s farm and made his living as a millwright.
