Biography:
John J. Hileman (b. ca. 1834), was the son of Daniel Hileman (b. ca. 1805), a Rockbridge County, Virginia farmer. John enlisted in as a private in Co. H, 27th Virginia Infantry on April 18, 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863 and was absent wounded for nearly a year before being discharged for disability in October 1864. After the war he worked as a stonemason.
