Dear Father Aug 24th
As I have a few spair
moments more to write ( you need not
thaink any thing Else but that we are
cheerful for It is sirtainly so a man
with any sperite a toll cant help but
be cheerful A Battle may be a shock
to a man for a few moments but they
dont seem to mind it long I would
not be surprised if we would have another
Battle soon but I dont think the
Battle will be near Manassas Junction
I think it will be down about Fairfax
Court House I think we are to have some
hard Fighting Yet for when Scott come
again he is compelled to send a large fource

are collected to gether it cant be
other wise fo in a large crowd their
is but little fear David M Cauley is
well I get to see him most every day
I wrote in Philip letter to get shaw to make
me a pair of heavy Boots I wish you would
get shaw to make them as soon as he can
for mine is giving away the work we get
from the state is but very little account
I reckon you will get tiered of me asking
you all for many favours but I can help
It for we are kept in Just like you all
keep Horses in pastors I have not had a
taste of a Roasting Ear this year yet
their have been a good many in camp
but I can ardly get the sight of them
