June the 12 . 1862
Dear cousin I take my pen in
hand to write you afew lines to let
you now that I am well for which I am
truly thankful to god for his Kind
mercies to me hoping thoes lines may
come to hand in due time and find
you in good health I have no news that
will interst you much I Know nothing
about the war I here somany tales told
about the war that do not believe
any of them it seems to me Evry one
tryes ho can tell the biggest ly so
I will not say what will be done
for dont want to tel a lie about it
that is the reason I have not rote
oftiner thinking I wood get stiring
news to write But alass it has not
come to me yet But I can say to you
and tell the truth we have retreted
from Corinth to Cupulo which
will make our retreet some 40 or 50
miles I do not now whethe the yankys
is a following us or not our pickits
had a skirmish with some of ther
Cavaly afew day ago
But I think it was a scoting party

of the yankys thay Kild some of them
an braght in 2 of them one of our
men was wonded only I have Ben
in one fight our ridgment charged
on about five thousand yankys some one
give the comand charg But it is not Known
ho he is the Jenerel halted us and
made us fol Back or we wood all
have Ben Slain or taken prisner
the Bullits fel thick as hale around
us when we halted we kild some
of them But I now not the number
our monroe Boys stands firm to the
post in Battle But our compay is agrate
many sick in fact about half of our
rigment is sick at this time [Mus?]
we have aharde roe to weed here in the
army But it is all for Liberty But
I hope ere long we will gane our Liberty and
piece and harmony will Be spread ove the
for soney southe I will Bring my
Litter to aclose Give my love to all
of our Connection and friends and
recieve a large potion for your self
I remain your effectionate cousin un
till death far well for a while
