In Camp near Murfreesboro Tenn. May
Dear Father and Mother
it is with pleasure
that I sit down to answer your kind
and ever welcome letter. Since I last
wrote to you we have been out on a
scout we was out eleven days we took
a good many prisoners distroyed severl
mills and factorys rail road bridges
in fact we done a little of ever thing
there was a greate many union
familys moved in with us we did
not see mutch sighns of a large army
any where in your letter you said that
Aaron lewis started for his regimet I hope
that I will git to see him before long
I sent ten dollars to you about two
weeks ago by Parker Truitt I recived
some postage stamps with your letter
also some newspapers all of witch
I am very thankful for it surpriesed
me when I saw my letter published
in the papers a few minuits ago Capt
Mc graw got back he took our old
flag home and returned with two
new ones with stone river inscribed

on them the corn is all planted down
at least all that they are going to
since I last wrote to you I have
been injoying good health my health
is better now than it has been since
I have been in the army I was promoted
to sergent yesterday sergents pay is 17
dollars a mounth it is a little better
than 13 dollars a mounth I have not
mutch to write write soon as you
