February the 1st 62
Dear brother & sister
this evening finds me
seated pen in hand
to inform you of my
welfare i am in good health
at this time and i hope those
lines may find you enjoying
the same i received yours &
Syntha’s kind letter last night
i was glad to hear from you
and to hear that you re as well
your letter was considerable
time coming to hand you wrote
it on the 15th i received the letter
the 31st our company got several
letters last night they have
been to summerset

we received orders night
before last about midnight
we started to march we
started about 8, o,k. we
marched about 9 miles and
camped 6 miles south west
of Lebanon i guess we will
remain here a while to guard
a bridge and the Rebles generally
the rebles burned a bridge and
a meeting house on the 30th
a bout 5 miles a head of
us the first Ohi Cavalry took
8 or 10 of them prizinors
they are camped 4 miles from
Lebanon and 2 miles back
of us (i mean our Cavalry)
we met them with the
prizinors our boys made
them march before them they
looked pretty sheepish shure
Capt Bradford and 11 of his

men captured a secesh horse
to day and brought him
into our camp i think that
i will get to come home
before next fall i think that
we will soon whip the
rebles then i will come
home to see you all Clarance
i would liked to been there
to help you catch those rabbits
you must both go to school
regular and mind your
teacher i got those cards you
sent me tell <Jona?> to be a
good boy and try to learn
his a, b, cs i havent time to
write much more at this time
