John M. McNeel Papers, 1862-1864
This small collection consists of two letters written to a woman named Susan. The second letter was written by a brother named John M. McNeel (also spelled McNeil and possibly McNeal). Very little is known about McNeel other than he enlisted as a private in Co. H, 63rd Georgia Infantry in Laurens County on September 30, 1863. He may be the John M. McNeal listed in the Census of 1860 and again in 1870 for Laurens County. The identity of the writer of the first letter is unknown, although it may have been Susan's husband or perhaps a brother.
