Campbell Papers
The Campbells were from the Cranes Creek section of Moore County, North Carolina. George Campbell (1801-1874) was born on Islay, in the Inner Hebrides, and came to North Carolina in 1819, where he joined his older brothers and married Ishbel Campbell (1805-1838). Three of their sons, John K. Campbell (1824-1901), Daniel K. Campbell (1829-186?), and George B. Campbell (1836-1863) served in the Confederate Army. Daniel and George died in the war. John and Daniel served together in the 33rd NC Militia. Daniel later served as a sergeant in Co. K, 38th NC Infantry. George B. Campbell probably served in Co. D, 48th NC Inf. Flora Ann Campbell (1834-1887) wrote at least one of the letters in the collection.
