James W. Gibson Papers

James W. Gibson (b. ca. 1830) and W. R. D. Bost (b. ca. 1834) were residents of Catawba County, North Carolina. Both enlisted as privates in Co. F, 23rd North Carolina Infantry (formerly the 13th NC Volunteers) on June 6, 1861. W. R. D. Bost was wounded on May 31, 1862 at the Battle of Seven Pines (Fair Oaks) and died of his wounds on June 9. James Gibson was captured at the Battle of South Mountain on September 14, 1862, exchanged, captured again on April 4, 1865, and released on June 27.
