Dear wife i got youre letter
dated Feb the 2 1862 an i was glad
to here that you an the Children
was well an i hope to god that
you an them may keepe youre
health an i hope that i may
keepe mine allso my dear i am
well an i hope that i will stay so
god bless you an them blessed little
white headed Children how bad
i want to see you an them i got
the hir hair that you sent to me
but it onley made tears in my
eyes to see it oh how bad i felt
to see that little lock of hair

i hope to god that we may meat
a gain before we die oh how bad i
want to see you but the chanch is
bad but i live in hops if i die
in despair i have got no news to
rite to you at this time onley
there was a man died in the
Regt last nite he was one of
the emanul Rangers you must
do the best you can you sed
that the folks was mad with
you because you did not pay
ib the 3 dollars that i ode
