Dear wife i received yourse of the
17 inst an i was glad to heare from you
an to heare that you was well
this leaves me well an i hope to god
this will find you an all the rest
well give my love to all my folks
an tell them to rite to me an let
me heare from them tell Sister
Mary that henry is in the hospit
al at richmon when he left
yorktown he was bad off
i dont think he will live i have
to tell you of a bad axident that
hapened to day the best gun that
we had on our
battery bursted to day an wounded
8 of the men i was close to the
gun when it bursted but thank
god i did not git hurt tom newman
is ded he died on the 17 inst look
over this bad riteing for i have jest
ben to the Spring an i am nurvuss
