James Island Sept. 7th 1863
My deare Sister I received youre kind
letter of 4 inst and I was glad to heare
from you all this leaves me well and i
hope this may find you and all of the
famley the Same I have nothing new
to write to you only our men has
a vacuated Morris Island and we got
fore of our Poor Boys killed an i
am sorry of that but that cant
be hope tha ware all
verry wicked all but one of them
and that was Thomas Fowler he
was a good Boy Capt John han[es]
got killed and he was a good man
to his men I will close by saying
I hope to heare from you Soon
