November 7th 1863
My Deare wife
I will write you
a few lins to inform you that I am well
and I do hope that this letter may find
you the Same my dear you dont no how
bad I want to heare from you for
I have not had a letter from you
in some time I think some times
that you have fergotten me and if
you have I want you to let me no
it and I will quit writeing for
each letter cost me twenty cents

besides the postage that you have
to pay an then I can get letters
from all the rest but you and I
cant heare from you I will close
this subject I have some bad news
to write to you 2 of our Regment
got killed last nite at fort Sumter
and ten wounded our brigade has
to keep up the fort all the time
our regment has got to go to fort
Johnson to nite on picket I
cant write much for I have got to
stop and get dinner and be
ready to go on picket I got a

glemce of a letter that mary wrote
to harry Little and I Saw somthing
in it a bout paying him you
can tell her that I paid him
long a go and if he would pay
all that he ows he would not
have so much money to send
to her and a nother thing is
when you send me any thing
I want you to box it up and
send it to me and mix it with
no bodys for me and henry has
never got a long well togeather
and if you and my folks cant

get a long togeather move to youre
Fathers and if yo cant get a
long there then let me no and
I will by a place not far from
charlston I no where I can by
a place cheap for cash the
place will jest sute me I think
give my respects to youre
Father and mother [I?] and
receive the grates potion for
youre Self good by my love
for this time write soon this
is the fifth letter and no ancer
