My Dear Sweete Little Mattie I received youre kind
letter yesterdy that was dated July 24th but I had jest rote you
one an now I will rite you a nother one my dear
you will get all the news in the other one I have nothing
in addishen to rite only the yanks are over with us
to day berrying there ded my dear you sed that you
wanted me to bee at home with you if the yanks come
that would do no good for tha would take me off
you neede not be a fraid tha will never come
down there you sed that you was agoing to live with
youre ma that Is what I want you to do move all
youre things that you can an put all the rest in
the house an lock them up my dear you dont no
how glad it made me to get a letter from you for it

if you had quit to let me no it let me no what sort of a
crop doty has got at our house Griffin has not bin home
he is liked to die with the newralger in his head mattie

an to all of bins famley tell babe that I have wrote to
her an Emmer twice an cant get an ancer an my love
receive my best love for youre selfe so good by mattie for
