Sept the 9 1864

Dear wife with thanknes to god I agane attempt to
wite you a fiew lines to you to let you
no that I am not very well tho I think
I will be in a fiew days I have bin
sick a bout a month with affection of
the kidney I have bin in hospital about
two weeks for the [???] [????] I think I
will return to my Command in a fiew days
if I have got any I havent hird from
them since the fight was over they was
badley cut up in the c[h]arge at Jones burough
W A [?]inson was sevearly wonded
in the neck he is in this hospital and
is on the mend he said that T M Brock
was wonded in the brest and was not
abel to walk to the rail rode and [I?] [????]
herd from him that thar was but one
Captain left in our Regt all the feald
officers was kiled it is said that inamey
has fel back from the f[r]ont and is going
a round [??] west point I hope they ar
it will draw them f[r]om your Cuntry
and turn them down the Chattahoochee

my Companey was commanded a 5 Sergent [1]
when I hird from them last and our army
is all in a bout the same fix I think that
we ar a bout Clane out der wife I hope this
will rach your kind hand in due time
and and find you well and doing well
I hope you will be at liberty to live
a your will if I cannot I havent
hird from you in a bout 6 or 8 weeks
I hope i will har from you when i get
to my Comand thar have bin a grate
meny of the running a way and goin home
and cumming back under gard but I
dont want to be in that fix tho I

if i cold be thar and take a fiew
m[e]sses of water milon and fruit with
you and [???????????] a fiew
times I wold be all right I dream of
eating with you evry night tho I
have fared well hear Caroline I do want
to sea you a[n?] hear from you the worst
I ever did and i think this unholey war
will be Compled to close this year
and god send the happy day i prey
