Geo Upson Cty Sept 1 62
Dear brother this leave my self and family and Mothers family well
as common except Sissy She has a sore on her foot and had a high fever
yesterday all day I dont know what was the cause of the fever Charles
was here yesterday he sayed they were getting on very well they have up 13 stacks
of very good fodder and have picked over the cotton once your stock all looks
very well I have up 8 small stacks of fodder myself and Ma are both done
pulling I have not lost any more of my hogs except 3 pigs my hoags has not got
the Cholary yet nor Ma’s Mr Lyles has lost most all of his with it
I have noth of much importance to write now Ma sent the letter
you sent to her stating your sickness I was very sorry to hear that
you was sick so far from home but was glad to hear that you was no
worse and was getting better I hope you will be well when this reaches you
I want you to come home soon as you can I want you to write as soon as you
can I have not heard from J. M in 2 weeks to morrow he was well then
there was a great eal of sickness there he had been in one severe march
he came very near giving out he traveled over part of the battle ground
of the last big battle he sayed he could not describe what he had seen
I suppose our forses there has whiped pope last week and took $60 000
of specia I cant hear enoug to know if the 27th Ga Regt was engaged
or not I am very anxious to hear I think I have writen all of importance
Ma has got her wool carded very good she is fixing your Janes as you
requested I close hoping to hear from you soon very soon I remain
