Camp Stoks Near grees boro
N C December 16th 1864
Dear father and mother and sisters
I seat my self to Drop yow a few
lines to let yow know that I received
my box the 15th it was all rite it
came to greesborough on wedensday
mr Brady was still there last evening
and did not know when he would
leav there I was very glad to to
get the box for rashens is tolrabel
short here I also received your leter
also and was glad to hear yow was
all well and don sowing wheat
you wanted to know what had
become of my aplication if it was
dead I cant tell eny thing about
it I hav not heard eny thing from
sinc I put it in I would like to hear
from it but I think I will try
to get home before long eny how
I think I can get furlow before long
there is some sickness in camp tho
not very much I dont think

well I hav no nus of intrest
to write to you there is no one here
that came with me theay are all
gon from her well I am still
here doing but litel if eny good
for my Self or my country
as I can see there is a good many
prisners here that is deserters
and men that did not report
here according to order how is ant
tild geting along and all the rest of
ants what has becom of J A Stiles
is he gon out with the malitia
well I believe I hav no more to
write at this time onely remains
your Son and brother untel
