Dear Wife
it is the third time that
I seat my self to drop you
a few lines without answer
from you my dear I would be
glad to hear from you I am well
and stout John Bradshaw is well
John [????] is well and all the
rest of our companey is a getting
well I heard from goodman Patterson
last knight he is a getting better
we have moved a bout two
miles from where we was when
I wrote to you last we have
moved towords kinston we
are looking fur a fite every day
our boyes are all keen fur a fite
our camps are between a Georgia
Regment and a South carlina Regment
Dear Wife I would be glad to see you but
I cannot but I think you could
write to me and let me hear from
you and lodema you [??] shorley [??]
of or have fur gotton me
one or tother Dear Nancy I never
furget you so long as life last
take up curreg and write me a
few lines and tell all the rest
to write [?] tell them not to

Get tired of writing to us all
the rest of the boyes get letters
but I get nun when the male
comes I stand and lisen at the
captin call them over but nun
fur J N if you write any more
letters to us direck them to
Goldsboro NC 38 Reg NC Vol and
in cear of capt Rheim and tha will
com tell [?ll?] and to hold
on fur the yankee [??] not kill
all the boyes thare is more boyes
between here and Kinston than
can stand in a ten acer field
tell them if thare is no other
chance I will fetch them a yankee
bay a peace iff I could tell the
old man that his boys is well
and reddy to meat the yankees
and then I expect tha will
be reddy to run but I dont
think tha will run home
unless the yankkes follers them
tell Mary that John will
ware heir likeness out looking
at it and kissing it tell
heir howdy fur me I [?] Nancy
when this you se remember me so

here Nancy is my tooth it hert
me so bad I had it pulled out
