Sunday Morning Dec the 21 1862
Dear Pappy Ma and Mit
opitunity I have and
This morning to send you A
few lines to let you know that I
am well and harty and I hope that
when those few lines reaches you
that they may find you all the same
I have writting two letters this week
to you all but fearful that you may not
get them I will mention again
what I want for winter although
I have wrote it in several letters
and have never received A Answer
yet that you have ever got eny
of them So I want A coat and two
pair of socks and A pair of Gambadoes
and A pair of shoes if they can be
had and my comfort so I reckend
that is enough for me at this time
I could have got A plenty on the
battle field if I had to the time
but wee expected that wee would
havto fight every moment and I
did not pick eny thing up and
when wee came over every was gone

you have herd all about the figh
before know I reckend so it is
useless for me to mention it again
I give you all the particulars in
the letter I wrote last weeak I
heard yesterday that the yankes was
going into winter quarters at washington
citty and if they do wee will go into
winter quarters in A short time but
I do not know whare but somewhare
beteen here and Richmond the
wether being cold and I have no
place to write So I will close the
news has just came this morning
that James Overton is dead he died
with the Typhoyd fever he left us
when wee ware at Gordansville and
went to the hospital and wee have
never heard from him untill know
well know I must bring my letter
to A close Pappy I should be very
glad for you to come out heare when
Brother comes and bring me something
good to eat and I will have some
money that I want to send home
So nothing more but remaining your
