Camp near Orange C..H: v.a
 Dear Ma.and.Mit. Aug.the..24..1863
 it is with great pleasure
that I seat myself this beutiful morning
to write you A lines to let you know
how proud I was to received the good
victuals that you sent to me and Brother.
you cannot imagine how much good it
dun me to see Pappy and to eat the good
things that he brought.. nor I cannot discribe
the pleasure that I took in eating ove them
well .Ma. I have no news to write to
you of interest nothing but what Pappy
can tell you and Mit. times are quiet at
this time. and I hope that it will remain
So for a long time So that thare minds
may be turned on far better things than to
carry on this war eny longer. But it seames
that both armies are determind to fight and
and see who will come out victorious.
victory has crowned our arms and our flag
have waved over A good meny battlesfields
since this war commenced. and know it
seames that they are getting the best of
all the battles that is fought
 [page 2]
but perhaps the scale will soon turn
in our favor. and then soon it may
restore A glorious peace and our liberty
 and inderpendance will be gained.
but thare is one thing that our Soldiers
ar doing and that is derserting thare noble
position they know that if the yankes
whips us that they will take every thing
that is near and dear to them by the ties
of nature. know is the time for every
sothern man to rally to his country call to
protect his rights and gain his liberty ro [1]
else it will be distroid and ruin.almost
 by A unmerciful nation
has [2] I have not time to write eny more
I had as well close for this time
as I have nothing to write that would
interest you atall So I close by saing
I remain as ever your Son.and.Brother
