Oct the 16 1862
Dear fother I imbrace the
presant opportunity of of writing
you a few lines to let you know that
I am well at this time hoping
when these few lines comes to hand
they may find you all well I
am at drewnes Bluff in Chester
fild County VA seven miles
from Richmond I under stand
that Allgius Lungan is coming
down here and I want you to send
me some cloths by him the coat
that I wore of before and my
boots and one par of pantaloons
and some socks and a cag of
Brandy and some honey our far
is not good here we have some
meet and breat but not enough
our meat is mostly beef we hav
corn meal and flour but nothing
else unless we buy it
we can git some things here but

they are high we can get potatoes
at eight dollars per bushel
butter one dollar per poun sweet
cakes 25 cts apiece half groun
chickens one dollar a piece the
companey is in totuble good thelth
at the presant I have sent you
seven letters but have got no an
swer I want you to write to
me as soon as you get this and
let me know how you are agetting
a long I have not herd from
Johnathan since I have bin here
