Isaac Copeland Papers
The Copelands were farmers from Surry County, North Carolina. Two sons of Hardin and Mary Copeland, Gideon (b. ca. 1838) and Isaac (b. ca. 1842), served as privates in Co. B, 2nd North Carolina Infantry Battalion. About April 1, 1864, Copeland transferred to the Confederate Navy. Some of Isaac’s his letters were written for him by his friend, John Washburn, and it may be that all of his letters were written by others.
