Sniggers neck, V.a Feb the 5th 1863
Dear Wife I take my pen in hand to inform
you that I have got to Camp Safe & I am as well as
common I hope those few lines may find
you enjoying good helth my Brother Charley is well
it is very cold here now it is a snowing here and
has been for Some time I got to Camp the 4th
day of this month I reckon that I will try for
a discharge & I reckon that I will get it. I dont
think that the Capt will transfur me
But I think that he will try for me a discharge
I had a plenty of pervission to last me to the
Camp & have got Some yet and they was
all Glad to see me come Back oh I thought
of old times when passed Goldsboro when I
looked at that old hospital I all most Cryed
Martha please make hast and get them gloves
done and send them out to Burgaw So
Sergeant W..A.. Bloodworth can Bring them to
me for I need them very Bad. I layed over
at Goldsboro a part of one day & at petersburg
a part of a nother day & at Richmond one
night, and I saw a bout .12. hundred yankees
at petersburg So nothing more at this time only
I remain your true an affectionate
husband until death please write

Dear Father Ramsey this leaves me as well as usal and
hope these few lines may find you & family
all the same Blessing Father it is hard times here
Shore nothing to Eat nor to drink but I hope this
war will not last all ways we are in too miles
of the yankees we can talk to them any time
remember my love to Carolian, Anderson & to
May Blake & to Mary Stokes & to Easter, Savage
& to Dick, Savage and keep a potion for your
Self So nothing more a this time onley I
