Camp near Shepardtown va
June the 18 1863
My Dear
Wife I am truly
thankful to that [ink very faded]
I am well and in the land
of the living Dear wife we
have had a nother Battel
at Winchester and to [praise?]
the help of God our [army?] is again
Crowned with victory
[??????????????????] and
all of milroys army
except a few cavaldry which
made escape with him
we got sixteen hundred horses
four hundred head of beef
[????] three hundred wagons
and all of there artilary
and any quantity of comisary
Stores such as flour bacon
Molass coffee sugar rice and
Any thing that [???????]

I was not in the fight
my self We lost no man in
our company except that [?] lietenant
P[??] he was wounded
But not bad I hope he was
in the right thigh
we lost only four men in
[??] in the Regiment and
the loss of our [?????] was
small We got five thousand
Prisoners We are on our way
to Marylnad and a
of our army is [?????] home
we may be succesful in driving
the yankees out of Maryland
and if we can I think we
will home [free?] in
our land again
We left camp at Fredericksburg
on the morning of the 5th after
[???] and got to Winchester
on the thirteenth and comenst

Skirmishing and skirmish with
them two days When Gen Early
drove them from the town when
our division was sent in then [there?]
[???] of the Yankees and [??]
them all But a few cavaldry
which made thare escape through
the woods when we pursued
them as far as Charelstown
My Dear wife we got
to [??????????] we [??] coffee
shugar and we will get fresh [beef?]
we will fair well as long as
the Yankees comissary lasts
well I have gave you all of
the news and I must come
to a close By asking you
to let me now here from
you soon
