Gordonsville Va Sept 29th /62

Dear wife i can Say to to you that
i am as well as common also hoping
when those few lines come to hand they
will find you enjoying good health
67 deserters from this camp two of them was
taken up and fetcht back this morning
they formed a line of all the men here
in camp and ran them threw and
every man had a hickory and had to hit
each of them one lick i dont know when
wel have to leave here we may leave
in a few days they had a nother hard
fight on this side of the potomac at least
20,000 of our men killed nearry side
back there is [???] of yankees down
at warenton they [??]tund two trains of
our then congress has past a law to
bring every man out in field to forty
five years old i want to know what
is the talk a bout it there if they are
coming or not i want you to write
to me how you are geting along with the
fodder an the other work tell the old
man i want him to write to me wether
he can get along with the hors i left there
or not an i want you to write to
me if you cant manage him
we get penty to eat yet surch as it tis
bacon an flour we draw sugar and rice
once a week
