Dier wife I take the presant time
to inform you that I am not very
well I hav got avery bad cold
but I do hope that when thies few
lines comes to hand they may find
you well and doing well we hav bin
on aleven days march we hav bin
allover the western parts of east
tennsee and it rained 5 days and
nites during this march and we
was not dry in 5 days and nites
and waded mud and wauter
from shew mouth to [han?] depe
there came [??????????] 32 hu ndred
yanks threw tennessee they came
to thie rail rod about louden
and came up the rode to knoxvile
tairing up the rod as they came
they came to knox and had afite
thair and then went on to the
strawbrry plains and burnd
the rail rode bridg thair and
maid their escape un hert
we was ordered to talehomey and
started to go thair and got 30 mile
below clinton and the orders
was counter manded and we about

faiced and came to knoxville
and is stationed hier and it
is thaught we will stay hier
all summer we air througing up
brest works hier and we do not
no how soon we will getin afite
hier Sarepti I no that you want
to no how I am geting along about
clothes I hav drawn close
aplenty I hav got more than
I can cairrey I hav not rote
aleter in about 2 weeks nor hav
not received 1 we hav taken 4 or 5 hard
marchies to try to get in afite but
we hav not maid the trip yet and
I hope wewil not Serepti I do want
to see you very bad and I stil
hope I will get to come before
lomg I want you to rite to mee
soon and often and direct your
leters to knoxville giv my best
