Marion Sexton
Thornton Sexton (b. ca. 1842) was from Ashe County, NC and served as a private in Co. A, 37th North Carolina Infantry. Sexton deserted in February 1863 and eventually returned to service. He was wounded on June 2, 1864 and died on June 5. The collection also includes letters by Thornton Sexton’s brother, Marion Sexton (b. ca. 1840), and by Calvin Childers (b. ca. 1842), both of whom also served in Co. A. Marion Sexton deserted November 1862, May 1863, and again in December 1864. Calvin Childers was killed at the Battle of Spotsylvania. Most of Thornton Sexton’s letters were written for him by men serving with him in Co. A
